The Rescue Border Collie
Because of the Border Collie's natural herding instinct, extreme intelligence and often high activity level it doesn't take long before an unexperienced and unprepared family or owner realizes they are in over their head. For this reason there are hundreds of Border Collies in rescues and shelters across North America. Please read the following links to learn exactly what the reasons are that most Border Collies wind up in rescue so that you don't end up in the same position!

We highly encourage you to look into the option of rescuing one of these great dogs before buying a puppy from a breeder! Power Tripp often takes in foster and rescue dogs that need some retraining or general manners training before being placed in a new forever home. Please take some time to browse the following pages and see if there is a rescue dog out there for you! If you are able, please also consider opening your heart and home to foster dogs in need!

Activities to Enjoy with Your Border Collie
Border Collies can and will do just about anything you ask of them so the hardest part is deciding WHAT to do. There are an endless number of dog sports out there that range from Flyball, Agility, Obedience, Rally Obedience, Disc Dog (aka Frisbee!) Dock Dogs, Therapy Work, Canine Freestyle and of course Herding. Of course there is also the need to keep your dog happy and stimulated while at home! Border Collie Health
Before buying any dog you need to educate yourself on the potential health problems of the breed. Although Border Collies are generally a long lived, healthy dog they do have some genetic disorders that can effect them. When interviewing a breeder always ask what health tests and certifications their dogs have had done. Some of these are far less common than others but all are something that breeders/potential owners need to be aware of!
Collie Eye Anomaly, Hip Dysplasia, TNS, Progressive Retinal Atrophy, Epilepsy, Deafness
